The house is a musical instrument designed by David Hanawalt, Architect is a collaboration with long string harp sound installation artist, William Close.
This house on a high bluff of Lake Michigan North of Leland has a dark stucco exterior with aluminum windows and a black and white interior for stark contrast to the natural beauty surroundings. Large windows are treated as views or works of art in the changing seasons.
Featured in Sunday section of the Detroit Free Press, HGTV "Offbeat America" and the Rolling Bed was the winner of the 2008 "Architectural Detail of the Year" from Residential Architect magazine.
Featured in "Lakeside Homes" by Linda Leigh Paul, Rizzoli/Universe Books. Also did the Interior Design for Living Room/Dining room from Luminaire, Chicago.
An elegant summer home on Northport Home, the house is conceived as a series of theatrical stages from Shakespearan portraits on the social/roadside through the house to a theater of the landscape. The house was designed for a wonderful couple of New Yorkers and their two lovely girls.
Restrictive covenants for the community required the house to be constructed in one year and 4 days. We accomplished the construction, and also designed the house in that period.

A 185' Rambling shingle style home along the river in Leland on Lake Leelanau. Photos withheld at Owners request.
A masonry and white oak timberframe house built like a finely crafted boat on Elbow Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. The house weathered with repairable damage a direct hit from Hurricane Floyd 1999, near Cat 5 with sustained winds of 154 mph and gusts to 185 mph; 9/1/2019 Elbow Cay was hit again as Hurricane Dorian 2019 made landfall a very powerful Cat 5, sustained winds of 185 mph and gusts to 220 mph. The eye of the Hurricane traveled over the island. The island of Elbow Cay, as with all of Abaco were terribly impacted with most homes sustaining catastrophic damage. The house I designed survived admirably. All photos withheld at Owners request.
This is a small summer beach house for two families. Designed for Cathead Bay, North of Northport, Leelanau Peninsula
